KOSCIUSKO— A woman was recently arrested after police were called to a residence in January regarding a drug overdose.
Cassie Leigh Santamaria, 27, with addresses listed in both Warsaw and Winona Lake, is being charged with dealing in a narcotic drug, a level 5 felony; and possession of a narcotic drug, a level 6 felony.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Jan. 10, officers with the Winona Lake Police Department were called to a residence on Wooster Road in Winona Lake. When officers arrived, Santamaria led them to the living room where a female was observed lying on the floor. The female displayed abnormal breathing and had a pulse.
Santamaria advised that the female had been down less than five minutes. An officer observed a silver spoon with a substance on top of it, a clear cellophane package, a cotton swab and a piece of aluminum foil on the floor next to the female.
Emergency medical technicians arrived at the scene, and Naloxone was administered. The female regained consciousness and was transported to the hospital for treatment. Officers spoke with Santamaria, who stated that the female arrived at the residence looking very pale and that she became unconscious and stopped breathing. Santamaria advised that she began CPR and the female began agonal breathing.
Police obtained a search warrant for the residence. Officers collected the spoon, clear cellophane package, cotton swab and aluminum foil from the area where the female had been lying. Police also located a black purse containing five cotton swabs, three syringes, four cellphone wrappers with white residue, red cut straw, cotton ball, folded piece of aluminum foil and a brown tourniquet. When officers tested the spoon, residue in the cellophane wrapper, aluminum foil and cotton swab, the items tested positive for heroin.
Warsaw Police spoke with the female, who admitted that Santamaria provided her with the heroin and a hypodermic syringe that she used to inject the heroin. She stated she injected the heroin in front of Santamaria. The purse found under the sofa was identified as Santamaria’s.
Santamaria was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on May 17, with a $10,250 surety and cash bond.
