Robert Amonette, Indianapolis, has been arrested for allegedly stealing from an 86 year old man as many as 88 times. Investigators report that he forced the elderly man to withdraw money from the bank, sometimes as often as three times in one day. The withdrawal amounts ranged from $25 to $40 or more.
The victim told police he felt intimidated by Amonette, who he said could be angry and vicious. He did not report the crime to police, but had mentioned the thefts to his hearing aid technician who told his family.
Police are further investigating the case and speaking to neighbors and friends. They believe it’s possible Amonette may have targeted other elderly victims, as well.
